 What is a common issue for people before and on their first date?

Prepare for your date. Remember, people do judge a book by its cover. Dating takes just as much motivation, commitment, and preparation as going to the gym. It’s tough but the payoff is huge.

 

 

     What kind of advice do you give them beforehand?

As a coach, we offer important tips and tools to our clients that help them bring out their best on their date. We will offer suggestions of what to wear, what questions they should be asking, and even give ideas of appropriate conversation topics to stick to while on the date. The first time one of our clients meets a potential match, it’s important to keep things light and positive, so we will also discuss topics to steer clear of, to avoid turning their date off or losing their interest. Lastly, we will give advice on great ways to end the date and score that coveted second date!

 

     Who is a perfect candidate for your coaching sessions?

Anyone who is serious about finding that special someone and looking to increase their dating success is an excellent candidate. We all need a little help and advice in various areas of our lives. Think of me like you would a personal trainer, I am here to help you reach your personal goals! Some great candidates are those who perhaps have not been in the dating scene for many years, and want a refresher on dating do’s and dont's, making lasting connections, or anyone who may be out frequently in the dating scene but are not having success. I can help create a personal dating enhancement plan to determine what behavior may be holding them back from success and what to change going forward. We also have clients who will come to us because they feel that there is something about their personal appearance that they would like to change to both increase their confidence and also attract the type of man or woman they are looking for.

 

      Give an example of how your coaching has changed the life of a client.

I had a gentleman who came to me for some advice on why he was not getting very many second dates. He is a successful, educated, handsome man who has a variety of interests and has traveled all over the world. We spent an hour session breaking down his date from getting dressed and ready for the date, to following up asking for a second date. I made many small discoveries that we recorded and went over in depth. We talked about ways to dress to attract the type of women he wanted to attract, some great questions to ask while on the date, and how to show confidence in “closing” the date while asking for a second date. Together we created a personalized dating enhancement plan for him to follow on his next date. He changed his attire, wore a little cologne, arrived early, asked great questions, smiled and let his date know he was interested in a second date. The following day he called me so excited that he had scored a good night kiss on the cheek and text message saying she’d love to see him again. He had no idea the small changes to his dating behavior would increase not only his success but his own confidence and satisfaction with the process as well.

 

      What do you like best about coaching people?

I have been in this industry for over four years and I cannot describe how rewarding it feels to help someone with their dating success. People are obviously hesitant to recognize that they need help, but once they see that I will deliver advice and information in a comfortable and constructive manner, they are more than willing to hear what I have to say. Nothing feels better than hearing from a client that the information they obtained in our face-to-face training session has helped them to have more fun with the dating process, feel more confident in themselves and their skills and…well, eventually find the love of their lives!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 What are common obstacles people have after their first date?

The most common obstacle is making the first move. You must follow up after every first date. Don't be afraid to be the first to call. Dating is about many "firsts"including the first date, first late night chat, first walk, first kiss, first movie, first month anniversary, etc. Do not over analyze a first date. Chemistry doesn't always pop up at first sight. Dating is a numbers game. First dates should lead to second dates and you should always keep your options open.

            What kind of advice do you give for these obstacles?

Dating is all about having fun! Keep things simple and light. After every first date, be sure to get their phone or email. Put the ball in their court and don't be afraid to ask them out again. Dating may shake your nerves a bit but this is a good feeling! It truly is a new adventure and it's exciting because your life is about to change.

     How do clients benefit from your coaching sessions?                 

Dating may be different from when you last remember. As a Dating Expert, I am here to guide you through all the obstacles and help enhance your dating experience. We have designed different programs for specific clients, whether it's helping you get second dates or how to maintain a good relationship with that special someone.

 

                What do you like best about coaching?  

The best thing about coaching is that the client truly benefits from it. You do see results and it does make a difference in your dating life. I have plenty of dating tips and I want to share.               

 

 

 

 

 

Six Ways to Maximize Your Fun

Successful Dating Guidelines

The key to successful dating is to focus on enjoyment and friendship. Date with the intention of making a new friend rather than expecting to meet your life partner. You'll have more fun and way less "performance" anxiety.

1. Approach dating as not just looking for an important relationship, but as enjoying life.

2. View dating as a chance to expand your circle of friends.

3. Find innovative and unusual places to meet people. Join a club, volunteer or take up a sport.

4. Take a positive aspect away from each date. For example, "I liked their values, their sense of style or their humor." Pick a quality or characteristic that you would like in your future mate. This benefits you, even if you aren't attracted to that person.

5. Become the person you'd like to date. Use your experiences as an opportunity for personal growth.

6. Embrace your single status. You have the freedom to do anything you want, meet everyone you want, and learn everything you can about yourself.

Keep dating light and casual, especially early on. On a first date, go out to lunch, drinks or brunch and split the check. This keeps the expectations and pressure lower. If you decide to see each other again, you know your date is interested in you. It’s that simple!

As you get to know each new person, you'll have an opportunity to "try each other out" and see if the relationship might work. Pay attention to what you're discovering. As you progress on your dating journey, you'll be exposed to new types of people and new ideas. Even if a date does not develop into a full-blown relationship, you're still growing and learning as a human being, which makes life interesting and exciting.

Less Than Three Months

For the guy or gal you've gone out with a dozen or so times, we suggest starting out with something thoughtful, rather than showy. Spending too much money on someone you just met will make you appear over invested and will make you look needy. They'll feel like they have to reciprocate and that could make them uncomfortable. Keep the gift simple and special.

Gifts for Him

- Melt his heart and make him brownies.

- Buy him your favorite book and share something you love.

- If he's a sports fan, try a team logo sweatshirt of a golf shirt.

   

   Steer clear of: Anything commitment driven like rings, watches, a mini-break in Hawaii…or anything too personal like nose-hair trimmers!

 

Gifts for Her

- Homemade CD of her favorite tunes.

- Godiva chocolates and/or flowers.

- Champagne flutes and a good bottle of champagne.

 

   Steer clear of: Jewelry, lingerie, or other sexy items and expensive gifts. (Oh, and no nose-hair trimmers!)

 

Three to Six Months

At this point you’re heading toward exclusivity, but most likely haven’t committed to anything final or met the family yet. This is a pivotal point in the relationship and it’s best to celebrate holidays and special occasions with a personal gift and a romantic dinner.

 

Gifts for Him

- Cook a romantic dinner for two – wine, candles, soft music, a sexy outfit, the whole enchilada. This will show not only that you care, but that you can cook, too!

- The newest toy or gadget from Hammacher Schlemmer (www.Hammacher.com). It need not be expensive or over the top.

- If you really like the guy but hate the way he dresses, a designer sweater goes a long way.

 

   Steer clear of: Generic gifts like a wallet or pen. You want to let him know he’s special.

Six months plus

Date #1: The results are startling, but not surprising...

In the latest It’s Just Lunch/American Way poll, 20% of respondents aged 21-39 felt they could determine within 5 minutes if a first date was worthy of a second date. 66% decide within a half-hour.

As a recently married dating coach who met hundreds of women during my bachelor days, I try not to judge such statistics. Naturally, if there’s absolutely no physical attraction, any relationship is a non-starter.

But can’t we all agree, that there are a ton of important things that can’t be discovered on a first date? And that maybe, just maybe, there’s something to learn from our elders?

I’m not going to stand on my soapbox and declare that you’re horribly shallow for making snap judgments on first dates. We all do. You’re busy, you know what you like, and you’ve got tons of dating options; what’s the point of wasting anybody’s time?

As a result, it’s easy to turn each lunch meeting into an audition. The problem with this instant-gratification model is that it doesn’t account for what’s truly MOST important in long-term relationships. What’s most important? Well, let’s ask someone who knows:

“Grandma, how have you and Grandpa lasted for so long?”

“Well, Emily, I’d say it’s because he’s smokin’ hot, I get weak in the knees around him, and we both really like Johnny Mathis music.”

Yeah, that’s probably not how that conversation would go.

Ask someone who’s been happily married for 40 years about the secret to her success, you won’t hear about looks, chemistry and common interests. You’ll probably hear a bunch of platitudes about trust, friendship, values, honesty, and laughter.

Yet these facets do not reveal themselves on date 1. It takes time for a person to reveal oneself.

In fact, I probably wouldn’t have gotten married if I’d taken my wife on a “conventional” first date. Because, in that first half-hour, I would have learned that she’s older than I am, a different religion than I am, and tells long, meandering stories that often don’t have a salient point.

But because I got a chance to get to know her, I was able to discover what makes her a keeper.

How she volunteers to give me a hip massage after I hurt myself doing yoga.

How she created a printed menu for an around-the-world wine tasting party on my 35th birthday.

How she drags me out of my office to make sure I eat her fabulous chopped salad with beets.

Her kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and grace could not have been available to me on Date 1, and yet they are the qualities that seduced me above all others.

I’m not telling you that you should go out with someone who is rude or slovenly or inconsiderate or unattractive. I’m stating that you have no idea who someone is after a half-hour.

The way to connect is to give people a shot.

Keep dismissing everyone instantly and watch as they do the same thing to you.
